Friends of Le Cateau (FOLC)
A very warm welcome to FOLC, Le Cateau's very own Parent Teacher Association. FOLC is an important part of our school, and we are always looking for new parents to get involved.
This can be on the committee and attending meetings or just giving us a helping hand at fundraising events. It is important to us as a committee, that we have this support as we want to raise as much money as possible for the school. By doing this the children will benefit especially during the current climate of financial pressures.
Why do we have FOLC?
FOLC has been an integral part of the school for many years although has operated under different names. It has raised hundreds of pounds to help enhance the children’s education through various events over the school year. Apart from fundraising, FOLC provides closer links between home and school especially with our community being extremely mobile. It brings staff, parents and friends of the school together when working towards a common goal.
FOLC fully embraces the ethos and diversity of our school; we try very hard when organising and planning events to respect this.
How we raise money
As in most schools, the majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run throughout the academic year, for example, we hold regular school discos and a Christmas and Summer Fair. Our Fairs are successful events and raise a good amount of money to support the school.
We are proactive and look into doing other events throughout the year. In previous years this has included event such as pamper nights, silent discos and collection buckets. These sorts of events change from year to year.
How we spend the money raised
During our FOLC meetings we discuss and make decisions on how the money should be spent. We also take the time to speak to the Senior Leaders and all the other staff for their ideas. Most importantly, we ask the children for their ideas and how it should be spent; we find that this really motivates them into raising money at these events.
We also use the money for resources to improve a particular area of the curriculum or school environment. We have previously used funds to help with school trips for the children so that we support their learning in a particular topic.
We always endeavour to spend our funds in ways that will benefit all the children across all areas of the school curriculum. Many of the resources purchased have a direct link to the School Improvement Plan.
How to get involved
If you are interested in joining the FOLC, either on the committee or just volunteering, please email our current Chair of the committee, Mrs Amber Grant at the following email address; a.grant@le-cateau.n-yorks.sch.uk
