Don't forget to count

We are surround with so many different opportunities to count and this is vital in supporting a child's mathematical development.

It is important that children use ordinal numbers such as first, second, third and fourth.  This can be done each day during conversations.  Ask your child what do we do first in the morning and what do we do second?  

The walk to school is useful for counting and learning times tables.  

Another way to incorporate counting is to check the clock regularly.  Ask your child what the time is and how long until they do a certain thing.  For younger children, it is useful to read the numbers and get them used to looking at clocks.
