MKC Heroes is an organisation affiliated to the Royal British Legion and began in Plymouth. It is an opportunity for pupils with parents in the Armed Forces to work together and support each other. In North Yorkshire, MKC Heroes is a strong network and a number of events take place each year bringing the service community together. The annual Ripon Cathedral Remembrance Service and Armed Forces Day are two of the highlights of the calendar and are events that Le Cateau always joins in with.
Within school, we run MKC Heroes Club as a monthly social event which the whole family can attend. Each month we offer a whole new experience. So far we have held quiz nights, bingo sessions, outdoor roller discos, movie nights and a very popular silent disco which was attended by over 200 children and parents. The clubs are held on Friday evenings 3.30-5.30pm monthly and we advertise events via the school newsletter and Seesaw.
Mrs Campbell and Mrs Hodgson work hard to ensure that everyone is made to feel welcome so that new families can be supported as they become part of a our school community. The aim of the club is to encourage our children and families to get to know each other on a social basis in order to make new friends and also to offer an opportunity to enjoy some quality time together as a family. We look forward to seeing you at the next event!
Northern Military Kids Choir
In September 2019 the Northern Military Kids Choir was formed and schools across the garrison selected pupils to be part of this exciting new project. The aim of the choir is to support the mental health and well-being of our service pupils through music and to further develop community links. The choir meets weekly for rehearsals and we are busily preparing for future performances. Mrs Stephens and Mrs Campbell are the main points of contact for the choir at Le Cateau. There will be further opportunities for children to audition and providing that they are confident and willing to commit to the choir then they will be more than welcome to join us! We can't wait to see how the choir grows and develops in the future.
